A combination of factors caused power outages in various neighborhoods.

Willemstad, September 28 2023 – A combination of factors caused power outages in various neighborhoods on September the 28th during the early afternoon hours. Just before 12 o’clock a fuel spill was detected at one of the energy production units at CRU, which could for instance cause a fire.

Due to this, all productions at this unit were immediately halted. This loss of production caused power outages in various neighborhoods around 12 o’clock. Aqualectra was able to swiftly re-establish the electricity provision at around 12:37 PM. Unfortunately, around 1 o’clock a situation arose wherein due to the high demand of electricity, combined with the availability of capacity at that time, several neighborhoods suffered power outages again. At 4 o’clock power had returned to all neighborhoods once again. Meanwhile, the situation has normalized, now that Aqualectra was able to restart its own production unit as well as the production unit of CRU. Aqualectra apologizes for any inconvenience this situation may have caused.
