Willemstad, August 30, 2023 - On Monday, August 28th, Curaçao experienced a record demand for electricity around 10 PM, with the electricity demand reaching 143.7 Megawatts (MW). This surpassed the previous record of 138.8 MW, which was registered on September 5th of last year. Despite this historic surge in demand, Aqualectry ensured uninterrupted electricity supply to the community, allowing everyone to enjoy their evening without any inconvenience. Due to the lack of wind, one cannot rely on windmills for electricity production. Last Monday, the windmills only generated 19.7 MW of electricity. One should expect the night to continue to be wam based on the weahter forcast. Despite the high demand experienced on that day, there was enough capacity to supply electricity to the community. This was made possible by the acceleration in Aqualectra's production unit maintenance program and in collaboration with Curaçao Refinery Utilities (CRU) who provided for addtional capacity. This is the combined production units that enabled Aqualectra to meet the record demand from last Monday:
Unites Capacity
Conventional production units 110.8 MW
CRU 13.2 MW
Wind 19.7 MW
Aqualectra remains committed to meeting the demands of the community. We encourage the community to use electricity responsibly, even though there is ample capacity. With the collective cooperation of all of us, we can successfully navigate through these warmer months
